ONLINE TRAINING

WEEKLY ONLINE TRAINING ‘ THE LANGUAGE OF VOCAL IMPROVISATION’ with David Eskenazy.

This training is specially made for passionate singer to acquire a rich, structured and flexible musical language for vocal improv.

It is also made for instrumentalists and improvisers who would like to anchor more deeply their musical background, develop their inner singing, and enlarge their musical consciousness thanks to the use of voice.

A basic fact is that you don’ t have to understand all the theorical background of the exercise to be able to practice and get advantage of them.

Each weekly session will be composed of a ‘base training’ and an ‘ advanced training’ ( full description here below).

The suscription for the whole year gives you access to both levels, and allows participants to compose their evolution during the year.

The program of the training is built acording to a gradual step by step evolution in which we will always take a time for revising the basis.

Here is the detailed program of both levels :

BASE TRAINING

RHYTHM

The rhythm table contains 15 formulas of 4 notes each in triple, and in duple. On the rythm table slowly and deeply :

1- learn the rhythmic formulas

– learning of the hands backing

– gradual learning of all the rhythmic formulas of the table with the hands backing – A trail in triple through all the rhythmic formulas

– A trail in duple through all the rhythmic formulas

– B trail mixing triple and duple formulas

Once this learning accomplished, acceleration of the trails.

2- associate a melodic phrase

– associate a same melodic phrase on A trails.

– associate melodic phrase on A trails that will evolve up and down following a given

melodic shape ( mode ).

Same exercise on several modes in relation with the ‘ modes ‘ work below.

MODES and TRANSMODE

Modes

Work with the shruti box ( it gives us a continual reference note ).

Slowly and deeply, in conjoint intervals :

We sing each note of the mode in relation with the shruti box !

The objective of this part is to learn several modes made for usual jazz harmonies :

– maj 7 chords : ionian et lydian modes

– Vth degree (7 chords) : myxolidian, bartok, diminished, altered, by tones modes.

– min 7 : dorian mode.

Transmode

The transmode method aims at acquiring every articulation point between two given modes, with the voice and with the ear. To get completely free in improvising on harmonic

changes.

We will work on 3 different transmode , slowly and deeply in conjoints intervals during the year.

TONAL HARMONY

Slowly and deeply :

-Learn vocally the major and minor arpeggios with their Inversions.

– learn trails combining cleverly the inversions between two degrees of a tonality : I-IV/ I-V/

I-VI/ IV-V/VI-IV/V-VI in major, in minor key.

Once this learning accomplished, acceleration of the trails.

ADVANCED TRAINING

RHYTHM

The rhythm table contains 15 formulas of 4 notes each in triple, and in duple. On the rhythm table :

– Basic trails of the basic training, but in higher speed.

– Complex trails :

. Mix triple / duple

. associate a 3, 5, 7 notes melodic phrase with the 4 notes rhythmic formulas on the A trails.

– Polymeter : learn to sing 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 motives on 4/4 / learn to sing 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, motives on 6/8.

MODES and TRANSMODE

Modes

– velocity trails on the modes of the basic training- Learn the substitution arpeggios coupled with the different modes

Transmode

The transmode method aims at acquiring every articulation point between two given modes, with the voice and with the ear. To get completely free in improvising on harmonic changes.

– 11 usual transmodes all over the year. ( 3 sessions on each transmode).

– conjoint intervals trails.

– bigger intervals trails: 3ds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, 7ths.

– Trails with melodic motives using and mixing several intervals.

TONAL HARMONY

Learn trails combining cleverly the inversions of the chords on : – Usual 4 chords harmonic changes

– Usual 4 chords harmonic changes with short key change.

– Usual modulating 4 chords harmonic changes.
